Video Editing For Children

This dissertation involves prototyping an interface which enables children to edit video in order to create simple stories. The editing will be carried out by manipulating graphical representations of the content of various short sequences of video (pre-defined by the programmer). The system will present the child with a brief description of the story to be created. The child then specifies a sequence of shots to tell the story. The system should contain a set of simple stories (such as people leaving buildings, etc.), a set of descriptions of the appropriate sequence of shots that tell those stories, and the results of placing the shots in alternative sequences. Thus, the children's attempts can be compared with the correct versions.
